According to Norse mythology, the three Norns dwelled at the foot of the world tree Yggdrasil, where they spun the threads of human fate. Urd symbolizes the past and nurtures the memories and experiences that shape the present. Verdandi embodies the present, reminding us of the importance of the decisions and actions we take. Skuld, cloaked in a mysterious mantle, symbolizes the future and the events yet to come. The Norns series is an artistic interpretation of this timeless tale of destiny.
Each coin was struck from 1 ounce of Ag 9999 silver, has a diameter of 38.61 mm, and a fictional face value of 5 Mark. The use of ruthenium and pure gold enhancement gives the relief exceptional depth and contrast, showcasing even the finest details of the design. The set is housed in an elegant collector’s box, complemented by a decorative sleeve that also serves as a Certificate of Authenticity. Each coin is placed in an individual protective capsule.
Obverse of each coin features one of the three Norns depicted at the foot of the world tree Yggdrasil. Urd weaves the golden thread of the past, Verdandi focuses on the present, while Skuld gazes toward the future. The carefully crafted details of their garments, braids, and jewelry are further emphasized by the use of gilding and ruthenium plating.
Reverse is adorned with the distinctive double-headed eagle of Germania Mint, surrounded by the roots of Yggdrasil and golden threads of destiny. The partially broken threads symbolize the influence of the past on the present and the possibility of shaping future events.
