Poland: 10 Złoty "Józef Piłsudski" Various Years (Ag.750 silver alloy) is one of the most iconic circulation coins of the Second Polish Republic, now recognized as a symbol of stability and strength of the reborn Polish state. Designed by renowned sculptor Stanisław Ostrowski, it was first issued on December 5, 1934 – on the 67th birthday of Józef Piłsudski – as a tribute to the Marshal. Its elegant appearance, craftsmanship, and historical significance make it highly appreciated among collectors.
The coin was struck in 750 silver and contains 16.5 grams of pure silver. Its total weight is 22 grams, and the diameter is 34 mm. It features a reeded edge and a classic, dignified design. Over 6 million pieces were issued between 1934 and 1939.
Obverse features the emblem of the Second Polish Republic – the crowned White Eagle, surrounded by the inscription with the country’s name. Below are the year of issue and the denomination. The design is distinguished by its classical, noble layout and subtle field decoration.
Reverse depicts the profile of Józef Piłsudski in uniform, with his characteristic mustache and a shoulder strap bearing the marshal’s emblem. The Kościesza coat of arms – the mark of the State Mint – appears on the shoulder. Between the bust and the edge is the signature of the designer, Stanisław Ostrowski.
