Perth Mint: The Outback 1 oz Gold 2026
Perth Mint: The Outback 1 oz Gold 2026 is a gold bullion coin from the prestigious Wonders of Australia series, issued by The Perth Mint. The coin’s design pays tribute to the Australian outback – a harsh and monumental region of immense natural, cultural, and historical significance that has shaped the identity of the continent for centuries.
The Australian interior encompasses vast deserts, semi-deserts, rocky canyons, and wild plains, forming one of the most diverse and challenging landscapes in the world. It is home to hundreds of thousands of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic. The coin symbolically captures the richness of this environment, celebrating the wild nature and resilience of life in extreme conditions.
The coin is struck from 1 oz of pure gold of Au 9999 fineness, has a face value of 100 Australian dollars, and is legal tender in Australia. Its diameter is 32.6 mm, and the reeded edge emphasises its classic mint character. The maximum mintage has been limited to 10,000 pieces, adding an extra collectible appeal.
The coin features an advanced anti-counterfeiting security element in the form of a micro-engraved letter hidden within the reverse design. This feature is only visible under magnification and significantly hinders unauthorised copying.
The obverse depicts the official effigy of King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne. The composition also includes information on the weight, gold fineness, and face value, surrounded by a decorative motif inspired by Australian coral reefs and vegetation.
The reverse showcases a rich panorama of the Australian outback, featuring characteristic animal species such as the emu, eagle, dingo, kangaroos, and frilled lizard. The scene is complemented by landscape elements including a waterhole, sandstone rock formations, and a rising sun. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark and the year of issue 2026.
