Previous coins in the series were the Year of the Mouse 2020, the Year of the Buffalo 2021, and the Year of the Tiger 2022, the Year of the Rabbit 2023, and the Year of the Dragon 2024. The lunar series refers to the 12 animals that represent the Chinese lunar calendar. The year 2025 belongs to the snake and is seen as a time of deep reflection, wisdom and inner development. Snakes have a reputation for being philosophical thinkers who are patient and prone to pondering. The Chinese zodiac sign of the snake falls in the years: 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013 and 2025.
This unique Year of the Snake coin was issued for the numismatic event of the 2024 Sydney Money Expo ANDA Special. The coin was struck in Ag.9999 sterling silver, weighing 1/4 troy ounce and measuring 25.6mm in diameter. The renowned precious metals producer, The Perth Mint, is responsible for the limited issue. The coin is guaranteed by the Australian Government as to the legitimacy and origin of the metal, as well as being full legal tender in the issuing country. The specimen is characterised by a security feature in the form of a micro-engraved letter located on the reverse side.
The obverse of the Year of the Snake coin is decorated with the likeness of King Charles III of Great Britain and the inscriptions "CHARLES III", "AUSTRALIA". In addition, the obverse side features information on the face value, weight and mintage of the coin.
Rewers depict a coloured Chinese snake. The reverse also features the Chinese 'snake' mark, the inscription 'SNAKE 2025' and the letter 'P' which is the mint mark of The Perth Mint.
