Perth Mint: Lunar III – Year of the Horse Coloured 1000 g Silver 2026 Gold Privy Mark
The Perth Mint: Lunar III – Year of the Horse Coloured 1000 g Silver 2026 Gold Privy Mark coin is a magnificent tribute to one of the most revered symbols of the Chinese zodiac. Struck from one kilogram of fine silver of 99.99% purity and adorned with a unique insert made of pure gold, it stands as a masterpiece of Australian minting artistry. This exceptional piece from the Lunar III series combines craftsmanship, intricate detail, and the rich symbolism of Eastern tradition.
According to Chinese legend, the emperor held a great race among all animals to determine the twelve that would form the lunar calendar. The horse, free-spirited and full of passion, galloped toward the finish line with determination but was startled by a snake hidden in the grass, ultimately taking seventh place. Those born in the Year of the Horse, including 2026, 2014, 2002, and 1990, are said to be independent, charismatic, and energetic – natural leaders with strong will and spirit.
The reverse of the coin depicts a coloured image of a majestic mare and foal in dynamic gallop against a backdrop of mountains and lush grasslands. Designed by Ing Ing Jong, it also features a 1-gram pure gold privy insert bearing the Chinese character for “Horse”, the inscription HORSE 2026, and The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark. Measuring 100.9 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm thick, the coin has a face value of 30 Australian dollars and is limited to just 388 pieces.
Obverse: features the effigy of King Charles III by Dan Thorne, surrounded by inscriptions denoting the monarch’s name, denomination, issuing country, and the year 2026. The refined finish enhances the coin’s prestigious appeal.
Reverse: portrays a colourful mare and foal in graceful motion within a mountain landscape. The gold insert with the Chinese character “Horse” adds depth and prestige, alongside the inscriptions “HORSE 2026” and the mintmark “P”.
