Perth Mint: Lunar III – Year of the Horse, 2 oz Silver, 2026, Antiqued Coin
Perth Mint: Lunar III – Year of the Horse is a distinctive collectible silver coin struck from 2 oz of pure 9999 silver, issued in 2026 by The Perth Mint with an Antiqued finish. The release commemorates the seventh sign of the Chinese lunar calendar and forms part of the prestigious Australian Lunar Coin Series III, renowned for exceptional minting quality and refined artistic design.
According to the legend of the Great Race, the horse – free-spirited and determined – finished seventh despite an unexpected obstacle. It symbolises independence, energy, and a love of adventure. Those born under this sign are regarded as charismatic and inspiring, a quality reflected in the dynamic reverse composition.
The coin has a face value of 2 Australian dollars, a diameter of 40.69 mm, and a weight of 62.213 g. The Antiqued finish subdues the natural brilliance of silver, giving the coin the appearance of an aged artefact. Each piece is hand-antiqued, meaning individual coins may vary slightly in appearance. Mintage is limited to 1,888 pieces. The coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and an illustrated outer pack that forms a Great Race diorama when combined with other releases.
Obverse features the official effigy of King Charles III by Dan Thorne, together with the issuing country, denomination, and fineness and weight details, in The Perth Mint’s classic style.
Reverse, designed by Ing Ing Jong, depicts a dynamic scene of galloping horses charging through splashing water, framed by ginkgo branches. The design is completed with the 2026 year-date and The Perth Mint P mintmark.
