Niue: Pierrot gilded 2 oz Silver 2022 Antiqued Coin
Niue: Pierrot Gilded 2 oz Silver 2023 Antiqued Coin is a collector coin inspired by Pierrot—one of the most recognizable figures of European theater. The issue combines the theme of the performing arts with modern minting techniques, creating a striking and atmospheric design with a strong artistic character.
The coin is struck from 2 ounces of pure silver, fineness Ag .999, and has a diameter of 50 mm. The antique finish enhances the depth of the relief, while the applied enhancements—selective 24-karat gold gilding and digital printing—lend the composition contrast and a theatrical expression. The coin weighs 62.2 g, and the edge is smooth.
The character of Pierrot originates from the 16th-century Italian commedia dell’arte and French pantomime. Unlike other stage characters, he did not wear a mask—his trademarks were a white costume and a powdered face. He symbolized melancholy, romance, and subtle irony, becoming an icon of European theatrical culture.
The coin was issued in 2023 as legal tender of Niue with a face value of 5 dollars. A limited mintage of 500 pieces underscores its exclusive nature. Each piece is delivered in a capsule, with a box and a Certificate of Authenticity.
Obverse features a colored depiction of Pierrot in his characteristic costume, while the background has been selectively gilded, creating a strong contrast and emphasizing the theatrical nature of the scene.
Reverse bears the coat of arms of Niue along with the face value of 5 dollars and the year of issue, 2023.
