New Zealand: Water Taniwha coloured 1 oz Silver 2025 Proof Coin
The collector coin New Zealand: Water Taniwha 1 oz Silver 2025 Proof is an extraordinary tribute to the rich world of *te ao Māori* – the spiritual realm of the indigenous people of New Zealand. Taniwha, powerful supernatural beings, have long been an integral part of Māori beliefs, inhabiting both the spiritual world (*te ao wairua*) and the physical world (*te ao kikokiko*). Water, one of the elements they manifest in, symbolizes depth, power, and mystery.
The coin is struck from pure silver of .999 fineness, weighs 1 troy ounce, and has a diameter of 40 mm. It was produced by the renowned BH Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH mint on behalf of New Zealand Post.
The mintage of this unique issue is limited to just 750 pieces, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector's item. Each coin is housed in an elegant case and comes with a unique serial number confirmed by a certificate of authenticity.
Obverse features a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Stephen J. Fuller. It also includes information on the denomination, year of issue, issuing country, and silver fineness.
Reverse depicts the colored figure of a water taniwha – a mythical aquatic creature presented in a dynamic, ethereal form. The reverse was designed by renowned New Zealand artist Dave Burke from Tauranga. His inspiration came from many legends, songs (waiata), and war dances (haka) that describe taniwha as guardians, protectors, or fearsome opponents.
