New Zealand: Cave Taniwha 1 oz Gold 2024 Proof is a unique tribute to one of the most powerful and fascinating figures of Maori mythology. Released in a limited edition, this silver coin from Aotearoa (New Zealand) takes us into the world of te ao Māori, full of spiritual entities that have influenced people and their surroundings for centuries.
The gold coin was struck in pure Au.9999 bullion, weighing 1 troy ounce and measuring 40 mm in diameter. B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH is responsible for its production, with minting carried out on behalf of the New Zealand Post.
The mintage of the gold coin is only 75 pieces, where the whole coin is delivered in an elegant case with an accompanying certificate of authenticity.
The Averse of the coin is decorated with the likeness of King Charles III. The obverse features information on the date of issue, country of issue, weight and purity of the bullion. The designer of the obverse was Stephen J. Fuller
The Rewers depicts a coloured form of taniwha, or mythical creatures from the Maori tradition that may inhabit caves. The reverse also bears the inscription 'TANIHWA'. The reverse was designed by Dave Burke, Tauranga.
