National Parks of America: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park ( Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) 5 Ounces of Silver

" Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) is a protected area in the United States. The park covers an area of 9.26 km² and includes the village of Harpers Ferry, after which the park is named. It also encompasses the mouth of the Shenandoah River on the Potomac and the surrounding areas located in the states of West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia. Its location at the confluence of two major rivers contributed to the town of Harpers Ferry becoming a significant industrial centre in the 19th century. It is also known for the raid by abolitionist John Brown, who successfully attacked a gun factory and arsenal in 1859. In doing so, he contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War, during which the Battle of Harpers Ferry took place on the park in 1862. The town changed hands eight times during the war, was heavily damaged and never recovered. The Appalachian Trail runs through the park ." The United States Mint opened in 1792 , and its first director was renowned scientist David Rittenhouse (1792-1795 ). The mint was established as a response to the unstable monetary rates occurring at the time-people realised the importance of stability in circulation. Today, the mint is one of the most prestigious mints in the world. In recent times, production has fluctuated between 4 and 10 billion coins per year, making the American Eagle coins already known all over the world. The United States Mint operates in six cities across the country: the headquarters is in Washington DC , the treasury in Fort Knox , and production centres in Philadelphia , West Point , Denver and San Francisco .

Averse: All coins in this series have the same obverse-an image of George Washington in a restored version created by John Flanagan.

On the reverse of the coin is an image of a fort located in Harpers Ferry Park and the inscription "John Brown's Fort"
