National Parks of America: Shawnee (Shawnee National Forest) 5 Ounces of Silver Shawnee National Forest is a national park in the United States, located in the Ozark and Shawnee hills of Southern Illinois. It was established in August 1933 and covers an area of 1,074.91 km². The list of national parks in the United States includes 59 national parks existing in the United States as of June 2014. All national parks are under the management of the National Park Service. Of the 59 parks, two are located in dependent territories. The oldest park is Yellowstone National Park, established on 1 March 1872 and the most recent is Pinnacles National Park, established on 10 January 2013.

The US Mint opened in 1792 and its first director was the renowned scientist David Rittenhouse (1792-1795). The Mint was established as a response to the unstable monetary rates occurring at the time - people realised the importance of stability in circulation. Today, the mint is one of the most prestigious mints in the world. In recent times, production has fluctuated between 4 and 10 billion coins per year, making the American Eagle coins already known all over the world. The United States Mint operates in six cities across the country: the headquarters is in Washington DC, the treasury is in Fort Knox, and production centres are in Philadelphia, West Point, Denver and San Francisco.

Obverse: all coins in this series have the same obverse - an image of George Washington in a restored version created by John Flanagan.

The reverse of the coin features an image of a turkey
