The 1-ounce Basilisk 1 gold coin is a product created with collectors in mind. This unique coin was struck in a limited edition of 150 pieces and, importantly, in proof quality - meaning that the reverse and obverse of the gold coin were struck using a mirror-image stamp. Mythical Beings: The Basilisk is a pure bullion piece weighing one troy ounce and Au.9999, produced by Australia's oldest mint, Perth Mint. The basilisk is a mythical creature that is described as a reptile with a lizard-like body, dragon wings and a serpent's head. According to legend, its gaze could kill or paralyse.

Additionally, this unique product is guaranteed by the Australian Government and is full legal tender in the issuing country. The product is housed in its original packaging along with a certificate of authenticity. The Overt of the gold coin is decorated with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark. The whole is surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH II" , "AUSTRALIA" and information on the face value, weight and mintage. The Rewers includes an engraved portrait of the mythical creature that is the Basilisk. The whole is surrounded by the inscription "MYTHICAL CREATURES" and "BASILISK". The designer of the reverse was Natasha Muhl.
