Maltese Ox Gold-Plated 1 oz Silver 2025
Malta: Maltese Ox Gold-Plated 1 oz Silver 2025 is a unique issue created by Germania Mint as a tribute to one of Malta’s most endangered native species—the Maltese ox (Maltese Ox, Gendus). This animal, once widely used as a draft animal, virtually disappeared with the advance of agricultural mechanization. Only a few specimens have survived to this day, none of which represents a fully pure genetic line.
The design by Natalia Danysz retains the signature motif and layout known from earlier releases of the Maltese series while introducing a fresh, symbolic interpretation. This issue blends modern aesthetics with an environmental message, emphasizing the need to protect vanishing species that remain an important part of Malta’s natural heritage.
The 1 oz Silver BU 2025 Malta Maltese Ox coin is struck from one troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and enhanced with selective gold-plating. It also features ruthenium plating and individual numbering, giving each piece a unique character. The limited mintage is just 1,000 pieces.
The set is presented in an elegant package including a protective capsule, a wooden box, and an accompanying certificate of authenticity, underscoring the collectible prestige of this edition.
Obverse: the coat of arms of Malta, year of issue, and the weight and silver fineness inscriptions, presented in a harmonious composition characteristic of the series.
Reverse: depicts the head of the Maltese ox surrounded by wavy lines symbolizing the wind. This subtle motif adds dynamism and lightness while accentuating the strength, majesty, and uniqueness of this nearly extinct species.
