Krugerrand 1 oz Gold 1984 Proof
Krugerrand Proof 1 oz Gold is one of the most famous and highly valued collector coins worldwide, available in a proof version with the highest quality craftsmanship. This one-ounce coin is minted from 916 gold with a small copper alloy (8.333%), which gives it its distinctive color and increased durability. The gold Krugerrand contains one ounce of 24-carat gold and has a total weight of 33.93 g. The proof version is characterized by a perfect finish – a mirrored background contrasts with matte details, highlighting the coin's uniqueness and aesthetics. Coins featuring the springbok antelope have been continuously produced since 1967. Initially, they were only available in one-ounce weight, but since 1980 smaller denominations of 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 ounces of gold have also been introduced. Krugerrand proof coins are produced by the South African Rand Refinery. They are full legal tender backed by the government of the Republic of South Africa regarding the legality, purity, and origin of the metal. Although Krugerrands are official legal tender, they have no fixed nominal value – the South African Reserve Bank commits to redeem the coins at the current gold price. Obverse features a portrait of President Paul Kruger, with the inscriptions “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA” above the image. Reverse shows the springbok antelope – a symbol of South Africa. On both sides of the coin are the digits denoting the year of issue, and below is the inscription “Fyngoud 1oz fine gold,” indicating the content of pure gold.
