Krugerrand 1 oz Gold 1969 Proof PF68 Ultra Cameo
The gold coin comes with an NGC certificate. This edition stands out due to its extremely low number of pieces rated at **PF68** Ultra Cameo (UCAM) - only 6 pieces are available on the market in this class.
The 1 oz Krugerrand Gold Coin from 1969 is struck from 916 gold with a small amount of copper (8.333%). The copper addition increases the coin's resistance to scratches and gives it a unique color. It is important to note that the Krugerrand contains one ounce of 24-carat gold, and its total weight is 33.93g.
Gold coins featuring the springbok antelope have been minted continuously since 1967. Initially, they were produced only in a 1 oz weight, but since 1980, Krugerrands in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 oz gold weights have also been introduced. Interestingly, the name of the gold bullion coin is derived from a combination of the words "Kruger" and "rand," which is the name of the currency in South Africa.
Krugerrands are produced by the South African Mint Rand Refinery. They are legal tender, backed by the South African government, which guarantees their legality, purity, and origin. It is interesting to note that although Krugerrands are legal tender, they do not have a monetary value. This means that the South African Reserve Bank is obligated to buy back the coins at the current gold price.
Obverse: features a portrait of President Paul Kruger, with the words "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA" above him.
Reverse: depicts the springbok antelope, a symbol of South Africa. On both sides of the antelope, there are numbers representing the year of mintage, and below is the inscription "Fyngoud 1oz fine gold," indicating the gold content.
