Koala 1/2 Ounce Silver Year 2014 "The koala(Phascolarctos cinereus) is a species of marsupial in the koala family, an arboreal herbivorous animal that inhabits eastern Australia . The koala descends to the ground only to move on to the next tree. It lives alone or in small groups consisting of a male and several females. It is the only modern living representative of the genus Phascolarctos. The word koala is derived from the word gula from the Dharuklanguage.

The koala prefers eucalyptus(Eucalyptus), but also supplements its diet with the leaves of several species from the genera Corymbia , Angophora , Lophostemon , Banksia (Banksia), Leptospermumand Melaleuca . An adult eats between 0.5 and 1 kg of leaves per day. It drinks water infrequently, only when the amount of water in the leaves decreases due to drought does it drink more often.Since 1927, the koala has been completely protected."
