Kiwi Gilded 2 oz Silver 2026 Black Proof
The Kiwi 2 ounce Silver 2026 Black Proof with Gold Plating coin is an exclusive issue from New Zealand’s annual coin program dedicated to the nation’s symbol – the kiwi bird. Its premiere takes place at the prestigious ANA World Fair of Money 2025, and its limited nature emphasizes collector value. The 2026 design presents a stylized interpretation of the kiwi by Shane Hansen, enhanced with selective gold plating.
The coin is struck in 0.999 silver, Black Proof finish with selective gold plating, weighing 2 troy ounces with a diameter of 50 mm. It was minted at the renowned BH Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH in Germany, with a limited mintage of 250 pieces. The milled edge and classic round shape enhance the elegance and prestige of this edition. The coin carries a denomination of one New Zealand dollar, and the black-and-gold finish highlights the artistic character of the design.
The kiwi, as an endemic bird of New Zealand, symbolizes uniqueness, strength, and a spiritual connection to nature. The selective gold plating and black background emphasize its distinctive features – long beak, round body, and fluffy feathers – giving each piece a unique and striking appearance. Shane Hansen’s design highlights both the aesthetic and cultural significance of the kiwi as a taonga – a true treasure.
Obverse features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Dan Thorne from the United Kingdom. In the rim, inscriptions include the monarch’s name, the coin’s weight, silver purity, and year of issue.
Reverse depicts the stylized representation of the kiwi bird by Shane Hansen from Tūtūkākā. The rim bears the inscription “Te Kiwi Nui” and the coin’s denomination – one New Zealand dollar.
