Kiwi 1 oz Silver 2026 Specimen
The Kiwi 1 ounce Silver 2026 Specimen coin is a special issue from New Zealand’s annual coin program dedicated to the nation’s symbol – the kiwi bird. The premiere of this edition takes place at the prestigious ANA World Fair of Money 2025 in Oklahoma, highlighting its international significance and collector value. The 2026 series begins a new chapter, in which artist Shane Hansen presents his stylized interpretation of this extraordinary creature.
The coin is struck in 0.999 silver, Specimen finish, weighing one troy ounce with a diameter of 40 mm. It was minted at the renowned BH Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH in Germany, with a worldwide mintage of only 5,000 pieces. The milled edge and classic round shape enhance the elegant character of this edition. The coin carries a denomination of one New Zealand dollar and combines the highest quality craftsmanship with an original artistic message.
The kiwi, as an endemic bird of New Zealand, has symbolized uniqueness, strength, and a spiritual connection to nature for centuries. The artist portrays it dynamically and modernly, emphasizing its distinctive features – long beak, round body, and characteristic feathers. Shane Hansen’s design captures not only the appearance but also the cultural significance of the kiwi, referred to in Māori as taonga – a true treasure.
Obverse features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Dan Thorne from the United Kingdom. In the rim, inscriptions include the monarch’s name, the coin’s weight, silver purity, and year of issue.
Reverse depicts the artistic representation of the kiwi bird by Shane Hansen from Tūtūkākā. The rim bears the inscription “Te Kiwi Nui” and the coin’s denomination – one New Zealand dollar.
