"Kiwi - a species of bird that inhabits only New Zealand. It is a species characterised by the absence of a tail and a very long beak. Modern-day representatives of the group feed on both invertebrates and plant food. They lead a nocturnal lifestyle. They lay one to two eggs, which are laid for 75 to 80 days by the male, who also looks after the young (he behaves in a similar way to a domestic hen, i.e. points out places to forage, digs up bedding, etc.). They take a long time to mature, at least two years. Despite their gentle appearance, they can attack an intruder in their territory, even with their claws.
