Isle of Man 1/10 oz Platinum 1986
African Buffalo (African Buffalo) 1 Ounce Silver "African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) - a large herbivorous mammal belonging to the bovine family (Bovidae), the only representative of the genus buffalo (Syncerus) Hodgson, 1847. Buffaloes of the forest subspecies are half the size. The African buffalo is not closely related to the slightly larger Asian domestic steer. Its origin is still unclear. The species has never been domesticated. They range from open savannah to dense tropical forests. The range of occurrence includes countries such as Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. The buffalo's coat darkens with age. Eventually it becomes dark brown, almost black. Set on a large head, the horns are very massive at the base. They are present in both sexes, but only females have the horn spear. The strong limbs are tipped with two toes covered with hooves. The tail ending in a large tang reaches the fetlocks. "Silver is mainly used as a precious metal. Sterling silver alloyed with copper is used for jewellery, crockery and cutlery. It is also used in the production of medals. High-end musical instruments, such as flutes, are made from this alloy. Silver is a very malleable and forgeable (slightly harder than gold) monovalent group 11 metal, with a shiny lustre that can be easily polished.
The obverse depicts the Rwandan emblem. ''The Rwandan emblem in its current form was adopted in 2001. The central part of the emblem depicts a traditional basket, sorghum and coffee - the main crops of the region - and a cogwheel. At the top is a ribbon with the official name of the country in the Ruanda-rundi language, and at the bottom is the national motto: 'Ubumwe, Umurimo, Gukunda Igihugu (Unity, work, patriotism)'."
The reverse of the coin features an image of an African buffalo along with the contours of the African continent.
