Great Britain: 2026 Proof Silver Sovereign
The 2026 Silver Sovereign Proof is an exceptional coin issued by The Royal Mint, forming part of the prestigious Sovereign collection. Struck from 7.988 g of 99.9% silver to Proof standard, with a diameter of 22.05 mm, it has a mintage of 20,000 pieces. The 2026 Silver Sovereign commemorates 500 years of the use of 22-carat gold, a standard established in the time of Henry VIII, and the return of Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic reverse design featuring Saint George slaying the dragon.
The first Sovereign was issued in 1489 at the initiative of Henry VII, and the modern version of the coin was reintroduced in 1817. The reverse, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, became an icon of coinage. In the 2026 edition it returns in Proof, and the obverse of each coin features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings.
The 2026 Silver Sovereign Proof combines tradition with elegance, showcasing classic elements of heraldry and numismatic craftsmanship. The coin is an ideal choice for collectors who appreciate the history of Great Britain and timeless design. The coin’s face value is legal tender of the issuing authority, and its beautiful Proof finish highlights the details of both the obverse and the reverse.
