Great Britain: 2026 Gold Proof Sovereign
United Kingdom: 2026 Gold Sovereign Proof is a classic gold collector coin struck to Proof standard by The Royal Mint. The coin is made of Au 916.7 gold (22 carat), weighs 7.98 g and has a diameter of 22.05 mm. In accordance with the historical specification, this corresponds to approximately 7.32 g of pure gold in a 22‑carat alloy. The 2026 issue forms part of The Sovereign Collection, continuing a tradition begun in 1817.
The 2026 year is marked by a return to the traditional yellow hue of the alloy after a period of issues in a rose‑gold tone. The coin is struck in Proof quality with a clear contrast between the mirror‑like field and the matte relief. The coin is available both individually and in multi‑denomination sets, in line with The Sovereign 2026 Collection programme. Each piece is delivered in an individual wooden case with a certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.
Obverse features the left‑facing portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, surrounded by the Latin legend “CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF”. Classic beading is used around the rim, and the coin’s edge is reeded. The obverse layout matches the current Sovereign issues during the reign of Charles III.
Reverse depicts the traditional scene of St George on horseback spearing the dragon, after Benedetto Pistrucci’s 1817 design. Beneath the ground line appears the year of issue “2026”, while the designer’s signature “PISTRUCCI” is shown in the exergue. The reverse composition preserves the historic character of the series, remaining one of the United Kingdom’s most recognisable numismatic motifs.
