Gold Coin The Perth Mint: 1/4 Australian Sovereign $5 2026 Proof
The Perth Mint Gold Coin: 1/4 Australian Sovereign $5 2026 Proof is an elegant collector’s issue inspired by the historic Australian sovereigns struck by The Perth Mint since the late 19th century. The coin is made of 916.7 fine gold and contains 0.059 troy ounces of pure gold. Its Proof finish highlights the precision of the relief and creates a striking contrast between the mirror-like background and the frosted design details.
The coin’s motif refers to the classic scene of St George fighting the dragon, known from the historic British sovereigns designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. The symbolism of St George has for centuries been associated with courage, honor, and the triumph of good over evil. This contemporary interpretation of the design was created by Jennifer McKenna, preserving the classical character of the composition while giving it a modern dynamism.
The coin was issued by the renowned Australian mint The Perth Mint and has a limited mintage of no more than 1,750 pieces. An additional collector feature is the commemorative privy mark bearing the number “100,” marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is delivered in an elegant case together with a numbered certificate of authenticity and decorative packaging.
Obverse depicts the effigy of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne, along with the denomination of 5 AUD and the name of the issuing country – Australia.
Reverse features a modern interpretation of the scene of St George fighting the dragon. The warrior, mounted on horseback, raises his sword above the dragon, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The design is complemented by the inscriptions “AUSTRALIA,” “2026,” The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark, and the commemorative privy mark with the number “100”.
