Gold Coin Solidarity 1980–1990 1 oz Gold 1990 Proof NGC PF69 is a rare and sought-after Polish collector coin, issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity.” This issue refers to one of the most important social movements in modern Polish history, which played a significant role in the political transformation at the end of the 20th century.
Rare “Thick” 32 mm version graded NGC PF69
The presented specimen belongs to the much rarer 32 mm diameter variety, referred to as the “Thick” version. The standard version of this issue has a diameter of 39 mm. The coin was struck in .999 fine gold, weighs 31.1 g, and was produced in Proof quality. An additional advantage is the NGC PF69 grade, confirming the coin’s very high state of preservation. The coin is housed in a protective NGC slab.
The face value of 200,000 zł, the year of issue 1990, the Solidarity theme, and the rare 32 mm variety make this an interesting piece for collectors of Polish numismatics. The combination of one ounce of pure gold, Proof quality, and NGC certification further emphasizes the collectible character of this issue.
Obverse and reverse of the coin
Obverse features the image of the eagle and the inscription “RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA.” The year of issue “1990” and the face value “200000 ZŁ” are also visible. The obverse was designed by Stanisława Wątróbska-Frindt.
Reverse depicts the characteristic “SOLIDARNOŚĆ” inscription, referring to the recognizable logo of the trade union, as well as the years “1980 1990,” symbolizing the tenth anniversary of the movement’s activity. The reverse was designed by B. Chmielewski.
