Austria Gold Coin: 20 Corona Franz Joseph I (New Strike) is a classic investment issue that is a historical restrike of the 1915 coin. It is one of the most recognizable European gold issues, valued for its tradition, metal content, and high liquidity on the market.

The coin was struck in Au .900 fine gold with a total weight of 6.78 g, including 6.10 g of pure gold. Its diameter is 21 mm. Contemporary pieces are official new strikes (restrikes), preserving the original appearance of the historical issue.

The coin relates to the 1892 monetary reform, when Austria introduced the krone as the new monetary unit, replacing the gulden. Gold coins in denominations of 10 and 20 kronen became the foundation of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system, and their popularity continues to this day among investors.

Obverse features the profile of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Around the rim is the inscription:
“FRANC IOS I D G IMP AVSTR REX BOH GAL ILL ETC ET AP REX HVNG”,
which means: “Franz Joseph I, by the grace of God Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia, Galicia and Illyria, etc., and Apostolic King of Hungary.”

Reverse is adorned with the Habsburg coat of arms featuring the double-headed imperial eagle. Along the rim appears the legend “XX CORONAE MDCCCCXV”, indicating the face value (20 kronen) and the date 1915, adopted as a symbolic year of issue, referring to the time minting of the coin ceased.
