Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion Coloured 2 oz Silver 2026 Antiqued Coin
Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion is an exceptional coloured silver collector coin struck from 2 oz of 999.9 fine silver, issued in 2026 for the Republic of Liberia. This release inaugurates the new Megafauna series.
The cave lion was one of the most powerful predators of prehistory, dominating the vast steppes of Europe and Asia. In this variant, the coin features an antiqued finish with selective colouring, giving it the appearance of an artefact recovered from ancient times. The combination of aged silver and coloured details enhances the realism and depth of the overall composition.
The coin has a face value of 25 dollars, a diameter of 45.00 mm, and is struck in BU quality. The mintage of this edition is strictly limited to 500 pieces, making it a clearly collectible issue from the moment of release. Each piece is delivered in a protective capsule, together with a certificate of authenticity (COA) and a cardboard box.
The obverse depicts a dynamic scene featuring two cave lions – one standing on a rock and the other positioned lower, both facing each other in a tense pose, as if moments before a clash. The animals’ silhouettes and elements of the ancient mountain and forest landscape are selectively coloured, emphasising the intensity of the scene and the predatory nature of the motif.
The reverse displays the characteristic Megafauna series motif of the cave lion’s skull and paw print, surrounded by tracks of other species to appear in future issues. The composition is completed by the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, the Germania Mint mintmark, and the denomination.
