Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion 1/10 oz Gold 2026
Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion is a gold collector coin representing the 1/10 oz variant of the inaugural Megafauna series issue. Released in 2026, it transports the viewer to prehistoric times when the powerful cave lion dominated vast areas of Europe and Asia. The coin is struck from 999.9 fine gold and combines intrinsic metal value with a strong historical and natural narrative.
The design by Kinga Sabatowicz maintains full artistic consistency with the one-ounce version, offering the same symbolism and strength of expression in a more compact form. The issue was prepared for the Republic of Liberia as legal tender with a face value of 100 dollars. Thanks to its fractional weight, the coin is an attractive option both for collectors building the Megafauna series and for those seeking smaller gold units.
The coin has a diameter of 16.00 mm and is struck in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality. The mintage of this version totals 2,500 pieces, which, combined with the limited nature of the entire series, gives it clear collector potential. Each piece is offered in dedicated Safepack packaging typical of Germania Mint issues.
The obverse depicts the cave lion in its primal environment, with clearly defined musculature, exposed fangs and claws, captured in the moment just before the leap. The background features rugged mountain landscapes and ancient forests, emphasising the wild nature of the Ice Age.
The reverse shows the characteristic Megafauna series motif: the skull of a cave lion and its paw print, surrounded by tracks of other species to appear in future releases. The composition is completed by the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia and the Germania Mint mintmark, confirming authenticity and quality.
