The Edward Jenner £2 Gold Plated Silver 2023 Proof is an interesting product issued on the 200th anniversary of Edward Jenner's death. The scientist made one of the most significant contributions to immunology, inventing an effective method of protection against smallpox - a vaccine - in 1796. The specimen is minted in Ag.925 sterling silver, weighing 12 grams, 28.40 mm in diameter, in proof standard. The mintage of the coin is 2,500 pieces. In addition, the coin is gilded in yellow gold. Furthermore, this unusual piece was produced by The Royal Mint. The coin is guaranteed by the UK Government as to its legality, purity of the bullion and origin of the metal, and is fully legal tender in the issuer's country.

The obverse shows the effigy of King Charles III of Great Britain and the denomination and year, as designed by Martin Jennings.

Rewers depict the core of a smallpox cell surrounded by icons representing people and the inscriptions "EDWARD JENNER", "A VACCINE TO END SMALLPOX". Henry Gray is responsible for the reverse design.
