The Averse was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for coins minted between 1907 and 1933, and depicts the personification of Liberty, symbol of the United States and liberation, walking with the attributes of peace: an olive branch and a torch. The seat of the US Congress can be seen at her feet, with the sun's rays in the background.
