Dinosaurs: Iconic Specimens - Diplodocus 1 oz Silver 2024 Proof is the third coin in the "Dinosaurs: Iconic Specimens" series. Diplodocus is a dinosaur of the sauropod group that lived in the Late Jurassic, about 154-152 million years ago, in what is now North America. It was one of the longest dinosaurs, reaching lengths of between 21 and 27 metres and weighing between 10 and 16 tonnes. It was characterised by a long, flexible neck and a long tail. Diplodocus was a herbivore that fed mainly on low plants, using its long neck to reach for leaves and needles. Its remains have been discovered in the United States, including Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. The specimen is minted in Ag.999 fine silver, weighing 1 troy ounce, 38.61 mm in diameter, in proof standard. The mintage of the coin is 2,010 pieces. In addition, this remarkable piece was produced by The Royal Mint. The coin is guaranteed by the UK government as to its legality, purity of bullion and origin of the metal, and is full legal tender in the issuer's country. The Overt shows the likeness of King Charles III of Great Britain and the denomination, as designed by Martin Jennings.
