Sherlock Holmes, a fictional character created by Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the archetype of the modern master detective. The character first appeared in the work A Study in Scarlet, published in 1887. The coin was struck in pure Ag.999 silver, weighing 1 troy ounce and 45 mm in diameter, in proof standard. The mintage of the coin is 1887 pieces. The product is full legal tender in the Cook Islands.
The obverse shows an image of Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse also features the inscription "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS" and the denomination. The obverse was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
