Cook Islands: Sparta 50 grams Copper Prooflike Ultra High Relief Coin
The Spartans - muscular, fearless warriors from ancient Greece - were famous for their almost invincible army, and unparalleled skill in fighting with long spears, swords and round shields made of bronze and wood.
The coin was struck in copper, weighing 50 grams, with a diameter of 38.61 mm, in prooflike and ultra-high relief standards. The mintage of the coin is 5,000 pieces. The product is full legal tender in the Cook Islands.
The obverse depicts a chariot with a woman and a warrior. However, the top of the coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse also bears the inscription 'ELIZABETH II', 'COOK ISLANDS' and the denomination and year. The obverse was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Rewers show two warriors and, to the right, Helen. The reverse also contains the inscription "SPARTA".
