Cook Islands: Petra Al-Khazneh Colorized 5 oz Silver 2025 Antiqued High Relief
Cook Islands: Petra Al-Khazneh Colorized 5 oz Silver 2025 Antiqued High Relief is an impressive coin commemorating one of the most recognizable places in the world—the ancient city of Petra, carved into the red sandstones of southern Jordan. It is the first release launching a series showcasing the most famous architectural landmarks, combining minting craftsmanship with rich historical heritage.
The coin is struck from 5 ounces of .9999 fine silver, has a diameter of 50 mm, and features a striking Antique Finish enhanced with colorized details. Its face value is 25 Cook Islands dollars, and the limited mintage is only 500 pieces, underscoring its exclusive character and collector value.
Petra, founded in the 4th century BCE by the Nabataeans, was a bustling center of trade, and its nickname, the “Rose City,” refers to the intense hues of its sandstone rocks. Its best-known structure is the monumental Al-Khazneh, or the Treasury—a more than 40-meter-high facade carved directly into the rock face. Since 1985 Petra has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and in 2007 it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Thanks to smartminting® technology, the coin’s design impresses with three-dimensionality and remarkable depth. The open edge emphasizes the architectural character of the Treasury, while the ultra-high relief makes the facade literally “emerge” from the surface of the coin. The antique finish lends realistic texture, while the colorization captures the warm, sunlit tones characteristic of Petra’s sandstones.
Obverse features the effigy of King Charles III, surrounded by inscriptions specifying the issuing country and face value, in accordance with the Cook Islands issuer’s standard.
Reverse depicts the monumental facade of Al-Khazneh rendered in ultra-high relief, with realistic variation in the rock texture and rich colorization.
