The design is enriched by a barley grain – a tribute to the agricultural heritage of the ancient city of Leontini, known for its fertile fields and connection to the cult of Apollo. The letters “CI” (Cook Islands), styled in the manner of ancient Greek coinage, refer to the coin’s place of origin, following classical traditions.
The coin is made of pure silver of the highest fineness (Ag.9999), with a weight of 1 troy ounce and a diameter of approximately 33 mm. It features an elegant antique finish that highlights the relief and intricate details of the design. With a face value of 5 dollars, the total mintage is limited to only 999 pieces. The coin is legal tender in the Cook Islands. It is issued by the renowned CIT – Coin Invest AG.
Obverse features the official portrait of King Charles III designed by Daniel Thorne, accompanied by the inscriptions: “CHARLES III”, “COOK ISLANDS”, the denomination, and the year of issue.
Reverse presents a powerful lion – a symbol of Apollo’s divine protection. A barley grain and the “CI” inscription, styled in the Greek manner, further honor the legacy of ancient coinage.
