China Panda (China Panda) 2013 1/4 Gold Ounce NGC MS70 "The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a species of predatory mammal in the bear family. The panda inhabits bamboo forests at altitudes of 1,600-3,500 m. Its belonging to the carnivores is unquestionable, but it actually feeds on plant shoots, mostly bamboo. It also does not disdain fish and small rodents. The classification of the panda as a carnivore is due to the structure of its digestive system. It is structured like that of animals that consume meat food. For this reason, the panda has to eat a lot, up to 40 kg per day. This is due to the fact that the panda digests only 25% of the food it eats (whereas cows, for example, digest as much as 80%). For a long time it was included in the raccoon family as a distant relative of the baby panda, but genetic studies have shown that the giant panda is related to bears, from which it separated in the early development of the bear family. Its closest relative is the Andean bear. The great panda is one of the animals on the brink of extinction, mainly as a result of its low reproduction rate, but also as a result of the gradual reduction of the areas available to it."
