"Canadian deer, wapiti (Cervus elaphus canadensis) - a subspecies of red deer, a mammal of the cervid family (Cervidae). The name wapiti originally referred to the North American subspecies, but was later used for the subspecies inhabiting the forests of the temperate zone of North America, mainly the Rocky Mountains and the eastern part of Asia. On the basis of DNA testing, there were clear differences between the wapiti and the red deer, sufficient to recognise the wapiti as a distinct species. Further research identified three groups of wapiti populations: the North Asian-American, the South Asian and the East Asian. It has been introduced in New Zealand and Argentina. However, most systematic accounts still treat the wapiti as a subspecies of red deer..The wapiti originated in Central Asia and entered North America via the Bering land bridge. Two of the subspecies are extinct: the Canadian wapiti (C. canadensis canadensis) and C. canadensis merriami. The wapiti is included in the emblem of British Columbia (one of Canada's provinces)." "By 2010, an estimated 166,000 tonnes of gold had been mined throughout history. World consumption of mined gold is 50% consumed in jewellery, 40% in various investments and 10% in industrial applications. Gold deposits identified up to 2008 were estimated at 26,000 tonnes. At 2005 extraction levels, these deposits would last about 14 years. Gold is the most malleable of all metals - one gram of gold can be broken into a 1 m² sheet."
