The limited series of Africa's Big Five includes the animals - elephant, lion, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard. The coin depicts the African elephant, the largest and most impressive animal in Africa. In the wild, an elephant can live up to 60 years.

The coins are struck from pure gold with a fineness of Au.9999, weighing 1/4 troy ounce each, and have a diameter of 22 mm, in proof standard.
