The Big Five II: Buffalo 1 Ounce Gold 2023 Proof coin is the fifth installment of the second series, the Big Five II. The first series was very popular with collectors and buyers. The limited edition Big Five Africa series is made up of animals - elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo. The coin shows the buffalo. The animals are mainly herbivores. The coin was struck in pure Au.9999 bullion, weighing 1 troy ounce and measuring 32.69 mm in diameter, in proof standard.

This unique piece was produced by the renowned mint, The South Africa Mint, and is official legal tender in the issuer's country. The entire series is guaranteed by the South African government as to the legality, purity of the bullion and origin of the metal.

The coin has a mintage of only 500 pieces. The individual pieces are supplied in a presentable wrapper, from which additional information about both the coin and the animal itself can be read. The Averse shows the head of a buffalo and the inscription "SOUTH AFRICA", "BIG FIVE 2023" and the South African coat of arms. On the reverse the two halves of the buffalo's head are depicted. The reverse bears the inscription 'FIFTY RAND' and information on the weight and purity of the bullion. By arranging several coins in one position, the whole group of buffaloes can be depicted.
