Banknote Ukraine 500 Hryven (500 UAH) Circulated

The 500-hryvnia banknote commemorates Hryhorii Skovoroda, a distinguished Ukrainian philosopher, poet, and thinker. The banknote measures 154 x 75 mm and is designed to showcase Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

On the obverse of the banknote is a portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda (1722–1794), who was a key figure of the Ukrainian Enlightenment. His works and ideas had a profound impact on Ukrainian national identity.

On the reverse of the banknote there is an illustration of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy building in Kyiv, one of the most important academic centers in Eastern Europe, founded in the 17th century. Its architecture symbolizes Ukraine’s educational traditions and heritage.

For protection against counterfeiting, the 500-hryvnia banknote of series 3 and 4 has various security features:
Watermark with Skovoroda’s portrait and the numeric denomination “₴500,” visible when held up to the light.
Security thread, embedded and visible in the light, with the microtext “₴500.”
Tilt effect — the “500” denomination changes color depending on the viewing angle.
Optically variable ink — selected graphic elements change color from green to purple.
Tactile elements, including Skovoroda’s portrait, the denomination, and markings for the visually impaired.

Differences between the series:
- In series 3, standard security features are used; however, the graphic details and color palette are more subdued.
- In series 4, the tilt effect was enhanced and the intensity of the optically variable ink was changed, increasing the difficulty of counterfeiting the banknote.
