Banknote 10 Great British Pound - Queen Elizabeth II (10 pound / 10 GBP) Circulated
The £10 British polymer banknote featuring Queen Elizabeth II was introduced into circulation by the Bank of England on 14 September 2017. It was the second polymer banknote issued by the Bank of England, continuing the trend of modernisation of the British currency initiated by the £5 note. The aim of introducing polymer banknotes was to increase their durability and strengthen protections against counterfeiting.

On the obverse there is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait is a standard element of all British banknotes and symbolises the continuity and tradition of the monarchy. Around the portrait are the inscription "Bank of England" and the denomination "£10".
On the reverse of the banknote there is a portrait of Jane Austen, one of the most important writers in the history of English literature. Her novels, such as "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility", have become classics of literature and have been adapted many times for film and television. Jane Austen was chosen for the £10 note to honour her contribution to British literature and culture.
The banknote also features a quote from the novel "Pride and Prejudice": "I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!" spoken by the character Miss Bingley.
The £10 polymer banknote contains many advanced security features designed to prevent counterfeiting and to aid identification of genuine notes:
Hologram image change:
When you tilt the note from side to side, the words switch between "Ten" and "Pounds".
See-through window:
On the front of the note the foil over the window is gold, and on the back it is silver.
Copper-coloured book-shaped foil:
It contains the letters "JA", referring to Jane Austen's initials.
Portrait of the monarch in the see-through window:
A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is printed on the window along with the wording "£10 Bank of England" twice around the edge.
Colour-changing quill:
When you tilt the note, the coloured quill beside the see-through window changes colour from purple to orange.
Silver foil:
Above the see-through window on the front of the note there is a silver foil with a three-dimensional image of the coronation crown.
Polymer substrate and raised print:
The banknote is printed on polymer, which increases its durability and resistance to soiling. On the front of the note you can feel raised print, e.g., on the words "Bank of England" and around the number "10".
