The Australian Kangaroo Nugget is one of the most recognisable coins, minted by the oldest of Australia's mints, the Perth Mint. The coin is minted from 24-karat gold of 9999 purity and weighs 1/20 ounce. The precursor to today's Australian Kangaroo was a coin produced in 1986 called the Australian Nugget. Its design was based on the image of a gold nugget. After a short time, the design was changed to the kangaroo figure associated with Australia. The obverse: the obverse invariably bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II together with her name and the coin's denomination.
