The 2023 gold coin depicts a rhinoceros. The white rhinoceros is the largest land mammal after the elephant. It can reach up to four metres in length and weigh up to more than two thousand kilograms.The bullion coin was struck in pure Au.9999 gold, weighing 1 troy ounce and measuring 38.74 mm in diameter. Its mintage is limited to 250 pieces. The Royal Australian Mint, a renowned precious metals producer, is responsible for the production of the gold coin. The product comes in original, certified packaging. The Averse of the coin depicts an image of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, together with information on the year of issue, the denomination and the issuing country. The obverse was designed by Jody Clark.
The reverse features an image of an adult white rhinoceros with a young rhinoceros. The reverse features the inscription 'AUSTRALIA ZOO' and 'SOUTHERN WHITE RHINOCEROS'. In addition, the reverse provides information on the weight and mintage of the gold coin. The designer of the reverse was Adam William Ball.
