The Australia Zoo Gold Coin: Elephant 1 oz Gold 2022 is the third piece in the Australia Zoo series. The Australia Zoo series consists of silver and gold bullion coins themed around the most important animal species inhabiting one of the most popular zoos located in Australia. Two coins have been released so far - the 2020 Sumatran Tiger and the 2021 Cheetah.The 2022 gold coin features a majestic, adult, standing elephant. The coin presents the African elephant. Elephants are the largest animals living on Earth. They can consume up to 50 tonnes of food per day. The bullion coin was struck in pure Au.9999 gold, weighing 1 troy ounce and measuring 38.74mm in diameter. Its mintage is limited to 250 pieces. The Royal Australian Mint, a renowned precious metals producer, is responsible for the production of the gold coin. The product comes in original, certified packaging. The Averse of the coin depicts an image of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, together with information on the year of mintage, the denomination and the issuing country. The designer of the obverse was Jody Clark.
The reverse features an image of an adult elephant, with typical African vegetation in the background. Interestingly, the design of the reverse was based on a photograph by Robert Irwin taken in Africa in 2019. The reverse features the inscription 'AUSTRALIA ZOO' and 'AFRICAN ELEPHANT'.
