The American Eagle is a coin struck in fine silver and produced by the United States Mint. This mint prides itself on the fact that coins are minted from locally sourced bullion. The American Eagle was first minted in 1986.The entire piece has a prestigious security feature from Independent Coin Graders, which highlights the rarity or excellence of the minted value. The obverse was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for coins minted between 1907 and 1933, and depicts the personification of Liberty, symbol of the United States and liberation, walking with the attributes of peace: an olive branch and a torch. The seat of the US Congress can be seen at her feet, with the rays of the sun in the background. The reverse is decorated by an eagle (designed by John Mercanti) holding a ribbon with the maxim "E pluribus unum" (Latin: Out of many one), referring to the unification of the states. Above the eagle are thirteen five-pointed stars, symbolising the thirteen colonies.
