Demand for palladium eagles is high due to several factors favouring this coin. Firstly, this is the first time the US Mint has created a coin from this precious metal. Secondly, the price is between the two other American Eagle coins currently produced by the US Mint - the American Gold Eagle and the American Silver Eagle. Thirdly, the use of Adolph A. Weinman's well-liked 'Winged Liberty' design will be a pull factor. Weinman's work is also featured on the reverse of the coin, although a much less well-known motif. It is based on a medal of his that was designed for the American Institute of Architects in 1907 and features the image of an eagle.
