American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold 1994 PROOF
The US Mint opened in 1792 and its first director was the renowned scientist David Rittenhouse (1792-1795). The mint was established as a response to the unstable monetary rates occurring at the time-people realised the importance of stability in circulation. Today, the mint is one of the most prestigious in the world. In recent times, production has fluctuated between 4 and 10 billion coins per year, making the American Eagle coins already known all over the world. The United States Mint operates in six cities across the country: the headquarters is in Washington, D.C., the treasury in Fort Knox, and production centres in Philadelphia, West Point, Denver and San Francisco.

The obverse was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the coins minted between 1907 and 1933. It depicts the personification of Liberty, symbol of the United States and liberation, walking with the attributes of peace: an olive branch and a torch. At her feet can be seen the seat of the US Congress, with the sun's rays in the background. On the reverse of the American Eagle, we see an image of a bird landing in a nest, designed by American sculptor Miley Tucker-Frost. The reverse also features the American maxim of the Declaration of Independence: "In God We Trust" and "E pluribus unum" (Latin for Out of Many One).
