"Gold is the most malleable of all metals; one gram of gold can be broken into a 1 m² sheet. A flake of gold can be broken down to the point where it becomes translucent. Common alloys of coloured gold, such as rose gold, can be made by adding varying amounts of copper and silver. Alloys containing palladium and nickel form so-called 'white gold', which is often used in jewellery. Less common are gold alloys containing additions of manganese, aluminium, iron, iridium and other elements that give gold more unusual colours, such as blue. Gold is a precious metal with an extremely high chemical resistance, much higher than copper and silver. Unlike them, it does not darken in air. It is also resistant to most corrosive agents, making it ideal for coins, jewellery and protective plating of more reactive metals."
