The collector's Road to Rio coloured 1 oz Silver 2016 Proof is an interesting proposition for sports and Olympic Games enthusiasts. The 2016 Summer Olympics took place in Rio de Janeiro from 5 August 2016 to 21 August 2016, with New Zealand participating for the 23rd time in 2016. The coin was struck in Ag.999 silver and a diameter of 40 mm, by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH, commissioned by the New Zealand Post.

Furthermore, the product has a limited edition of only 2016 pieces. Importantly, each piece comes in an exclusive case along with a numbered certificate of authenticity.The obverse of the coin is decorated with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown. The obverse features information on the date of issue, country of issue. The designer of the obverse was Ian Rank-Broadley. The Rewers depict various sports along with the Olympic Games logo and a fern. The reverse shows the face value of the currency. Jonathan Gray is responsible for the design.
