The Darkest Hour 1 oz Silver 2017 Proof limited edition coin is a piece that commemorates the First World War. New Zealand entered the battle against Germany on 5 August 1914, as a British colony. The coin depicts the New Zealand military's deadliest day on 12 October 1917 at Passchendaele. The silver coin was struck in pure Ag.999 bullion, weighing 1 troy ounce and measuring 40mm in diameter, to proof standard. The Royal Australian Mint is responsible for its production, with minting carried out on behalf of the New Zealand Post. The product is full legal tender in New Zealand. The mintage of the silver coin is only 2,500 pieces, where the whole coin comes in its original box with an accompanying certificate of authenticity. The Averse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, designed by Ian Rank- Broadley. The obverse also shows the weight, purity of the bullion, country of issue and date of issue.
