0th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag Colored $2 Bronze 2025 "C" Mintmark
The commemorative coin 30th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag Colored $2 Bronze 2025 "C" Mintmark was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the official recognition of the Torres Strait Islander flag as a national symbol of Australia. Designed in 1992 by Bernard Namok, the flag reflects the identity, traditions, and pride of the Islander community. The green represents the land, blue stands for the sea, and black symbolizes the people, while the central motifs of the Dhari and the five-pointed star highlight the richness of the cultural heritage and the belonging to the islander groups. The coin is struck from an aluminium-bronze alloy in an uncirculated standard, with a colored reverse and the distinctive "C" mintmark. It is legal tender in Australia, with a maximum mintage of 100,000 pieces. Each coin is presented in a commemorative card, making it an attractive option for collectors. This issue not only commemorates the symbolism of the flag but also honors the contribution of the Torres Strait Islander community to the country's history and culture. Obverse: The coin features a portrait of King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne. The inscription around the edge includes the monarch's name, the country of issue, the coin’s denomination, and the year of issue – 2025. Reverse: The reverse depicts the stylized Torres Strait Islander flag, enriched with elements of traditional Islander art. At the bottom of the coin is the "C" mintmark and the years “1995–2025,” commemorating the 30th anniversary of the flag’s official recognition.
